Since 2019, the Bupa Foundation has committed more than NZ$3 million to grassroots organisations across Australia and New Zealand, supporting practical initiatives that improve health outcomes and create stronger, more connected and sustainable communities.
Bupa New Zealand Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Michael Burgess said the increase in funding reflected Bupa's commitment to backing community organisations making a genuine difference.
"This is our biggest Community Grants Program yet, with significantly more funding available than previous years and larger grants that will help organisations expand successful programmes and increase their impact.
"Across New Zealand there are passionate community organisations delivering incredible work every day. Whether they're improving physical or mental wellbeing, creating stronger community connections, supporting vulnerable people or protecting our environment, these groups are making a tangible difference where it's needed most.
"We're proud to be able to invest more in those organisations because we know lasting change happens when local communities are empowered to lead solutions that work for them."
Last year's New Zealand recipients included organisations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters Rotorua, Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust, First Foundation, Louise Perkins Foundation (Sweet Louise), Endangered Species Foundation, as well as a number of other grassroots organisations delivering projects that improve health, wellbeing and environmental outcomes across Aotearoa.
Mr Burgess said the introduction of grants of up to NZ$60,000 would enable organisations to think bigger.
"It's a tough funding environment out there and we know many organisations with ambitious ideas simply need additional backing to take the next step. These larger grants will help successful initiatives scale, reach more people and deliver lasting benefits for communities throughout New Zealand.
