“My children felt I needed to move to a retirement village with my wife; they started looking at different places and came up with Bupa,” says Suresh, who works as a relief teacher in physics and maths.
“When we visited, we found the village manager was very friendly and compassionate,” says Suresh, who initially moved to an apartment with his wife before she was moved to the on-site care home after being diagnosed with dementia. “The advantage is it takes me only a few minutes to go and see her and I am really satisfied she is being looked after well,” he says.
“Coming to Bupa has been convenient in many ways; the maintenance is done well and with my arthritis that is really important,” says Suresh. West Auckland has been home for Suresh for the last twenty years, and with most of his friends still in the area, he enjoys the easy proximity for visits both out of the village, or friends coming in to see him.
With his two sons both in Auckland, Suresh also enjoys visits from his children and grandchildren; “in particular the youngest one who calls me her best friend,” he says. “She likes the games in the common area, and it is nice to come and sit in the lounge and have coffee.”
“I like staying at Bupa because I can be myself,” says Suresh. “I can take part in social activities, or I can be on my own. I am very happy here.”
