Date: 11 Aug 2021

Harmonies floated across the Bupa Wattle Downs Retirement Village lounge as a local barbershop entertained the village residents.

The Sweet Adelines group known as Tukutahi, meaning simultaneous, the four member acapela singing group also includes Bupa’s Clinical Services Director, Katherine Foulkes as tenor.

It was the first time the group had performed to an audience and impressively no backing music was needed, just a quick moment to get the tone to begin.

The song setlist included a rendition of the California Dreamin, made famous by the American folk rock group Mamas & the Papas.

Bupa Wattle Downs Retirement Village Manager, Lynne Westbrooke, says the group performed for about half an hour and was enjoyed by all.

“Oh everyone loved it. Absolutely amazing voices and what harmonies.”

The group hope to compete in regional barbershop competitions coming soon.
