Bupa: Laurie O’Reilly Cup naming rights partner and partner of the Black Ferns

Bupa New Zealand is proud to announce the extension of its global health partnership with New Zealand Rugby to officially include the Black Ferns in New Zealand and the Naming Rights Sponsor of the Laurie O’Reilly Cup – the fiercely contested trans-Tasman series between the Black Ferns and Australia’s Wallaroos.

Pedro Sánchez, Managing Director Bupa New Zealand, says Bupa’s support for the Black Ferns is more than just a sponsorship, “it’s a celebration of inclusivity and the power of sport to encourage positive health behaviours, spark conversations and challenge stereotypes.

“The Black Ferns are a source of inspiration across Aotearoa and around the world. We’re proud to support a team that represents the highest levels of athletic achievement, teamwork and wellbeing. Our partnership reflects Bupa’s wider commitment to inclusion in sport through equal access and opportunities to participate, and to promoting both physical and mental health at all levels of the community.”

He adds, “The Black Ferns are not only world champions and pioneers in women’s rugby, but also global role models for determination, resilience, and elite performance. Their growing global following reflects a rising appreciation for the strength, skill and mana of women’s rugby – values deeply aligned with Bupa’s commitment to helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives.”

Earlier this year, Bupa’s  Human After All campaign featured members of the Black Ferns speaking openly about their health journeys – highlighting the importance of mental wellbeing, physical resilience and community support.

Through this initiative, Bupa is helping break down the stigma around conversations about physical and mental health and wellbeing, encouraging open dialogue and elevating the voices of athletes as leaders on and off the field.

“Bupa’s support for the Black Ferns and the Laurie O’Reilly Cup is such a welcome addition and wonderful example of the power of women’s rugby. We welcome their commitment to growing the game, promoting health and wellbeing, and backing our wāhine toa to thrive both on and off the pitch.”

The partnership between Bupa and the Black Ferns is part of a broader global alliance between Bupa and New Zealand Rugby to support the All Blacks, Black Ferns, and the New Zealand men’s and women’s sevens teams across the globe.
