Across New Zealand, we’re committed to making a positive difference through the way we operate - for our residents, our team members and our communities.
Through providing quality health and care services, being a place where people love to work, engaging and investing in the community, and minimising our environmental footprint, we aim to positively contribute to our society and the environment we live in.
Helping to create a dementia-friendly New Zealand
The award recognises New Zealand organisations which have taken steps to improve access to services for those with dementia.
There are 70,000 New Zealanders currently living with dementia, with the number expected to increase to 170,000 by 2050 according to Alzheimers New Zealand.
We’re also part of the Dementia-Friendly Rotorua Steering Group, helping to make Rotorua New Zealand’s first dementia-friendly city.
Building healthy care homes and villages
We’re committed to building healthy and sustainable communities, while supporting the optimal health of our residents and minimising our impact on the environment.
We’ve achieved a build standard of Homestar Level 6 for our new Bupa Foxbridge Retirement Village development in Te Rapa, Hamilton.
Homestar is the comprehensive, national, independent system that rates the health, comfort and efficiency of New Zealand homes, on a scale of 1-10, at both the design and build phase.
A 6 Homestar rating or higher provides assurance that a home will be warmer, healthier and cost less to run than a typical new home. Homestar ratings are assessed by qualified professionals and certified by the New Zealand Green Building Council.
Fundraising for local causes
Whether it’s a Pink Ribbon breakfast for the Breast Cancer Foundation, baking cupcakes for the SPCA, or running a marathon for mental health awareness, Bupa matches donations fundraised by employees. Up to $200 per employee per year is available to help our people achieve their fundraising goals.
Small changes makes the difference
Helping the environment has meant just a small change to breakfast trays of residents at our Bupa Accadia Manor Care Home in Tauranga.
Bridging the gap
Something special happens when children enter aged care and those who are cared for have the chance to become carers again.
That's what's been happening in two of Bupa's Rotorua homes and the impact has been powerful on both the residents and the visiting children.
