The trio recently took a nine-day South Island holiday together and loved every minute of it.
Even though Margaret (83) thought her holidaying days were behind her due to health issues (her last holiday was eight years ago), she felt reassurance from Gill and Liz who insisted she join them on their getaway.
The trio became fast friends after living separately in the Taupo village and set off on their South Island tour, including a few days in Nelson with Gill’s daughter Sarah.
“I worked hard to build up my stamina with my caregiver, who pushed me to walk more with my walker, until the day finally arrived for our first day on the tour,” Margaret says.
Their trip included visits to tourist sites in Queenstown, Dunedin and Milford Sound, with lots of laughs along the way. The laughs and adventures included Margaret’s triumph to step over a boat barrier and when Gill got soaked from a waterfall as she took photos on their Milford Sound scenic cruise.
The trio also visited a pub in Ross and got chatting to a group of bikers. The bikers were impressed when Margaret told them she had a motorbike licence and even invited the ladies to check out their bikes.
Margaret says they were all exhausted after their holiday but they're already planning their next adventure.
“Our holiday taught me that I’m capable of doing much more than I thought, especially with the help of my wonderful friends,” Margaret says.
