This significantly reduces reliance on grid electricity while supporting more sustainable care and retirement village environments for Bupa’s residents.
The solar rollout complements Bupa New Zealand’s procurement of 100% renewable electricity and forms part of a broader programme to increase on-site renewable generation across villages and care homes.
The installations are projected to deliver annual energy cost savings of approximately $112,000, reinforcing the commercial benefits of on-site renewable generation. Managing Director Pedro Sanchez says the investment reflects both responsibility and rising expectations of Bupa’s customers.
“This is a practical step to further lower our emissions, build resilience into our sites, and respond to what our residents and communities expect from us.”
“With solar panels being installed on another five sites this year, we expect to surpass 1,000 kW of solar power capacity by the end of 2026,” he says.
NuGreen who worked with Bupa to deliver the installations, says the projects demonstrate how healthcare providers can take meaningful action on sustainability.
“The aged care and retirement living sector is increasingly looking for practical pathways to decarbonisation,” says Mark Mathieson at NuGreen.
“This installation demonstrates how distributed solar can play a meaningful role in reducing emissions while strengthening energy resilience across essential services.”
