How you could reduce your risks

Look after your heart

Don’t smoke. Smoking damages blood vessels and reduces the amount of blood that reaches the brain. A healthy heart means a healthy brain.

Challenge your brain

Taking part in new activities can help build new brain cells and strengthen connections between them. You could try learning a new language, or play chess.

Follow a healthy diet

Eat a balanced diet, including foods high in Vitamin B and Omega 3 such as fruit, veggies and fish which are beneficial for brain health.

Be physically active

Aim for at least 30 minutes of activity, such as brisk walking, five days a week.

Enjoy social activity

Spending time with other people helps keep our minds active and engaged.

Use a hearing aid when you experience hearing loss

Hearing loss can result in reduced social engagement.

A general rule is what's good for your heart is good for your brain – and it's never too late to start.
