Psychogeriatric level care (also known as specialist dementia care or D6) is specifically for people living with advanced dementia and associated behavioural or psychological symptoms. This may include severe confusion, aggression, agitation, or significant mental health challenges that cannot be safely supported in rest home or hospital level care settings.
At Bupa, psychogeriatric level care is provided in secure care homes designed for residents with complex needs. Our multidisciplinary team includes specialist nurses, healthcare professionals, and support workers trained in dementia care and behavioural health. Each resident has a personalised care plan that reflects their medical, emotional, and day-to-day needs.
We understand this level of care can feel overwhelming. We’re here to provide reassurance, safety, and dignity offering professional, compassionate care for the resident, as well as clear communication and support for their family/ whānau.
Bupa provide psychogeriatric level care in select locations across New Zealand.
