Lois Edwards joined six others in the oversized basket for a balloon adventure across Hamilton as part of the recent Balloons over Waikato event.
The 93 year old New Lynn village resident created her bucket list when she turned 90 and has already enjoyed a helicopter ride over Waiheke and the Auckland SkyWalk.
Lois says although she never gets scared, the challenge was getting into the balloon basket so early in the morning.
“I didn’t break anything so that was good. Once I was in there and we went up I liked looking down and seeing the cars that looked like little dinky cars.”
Lois has been a Glenburn Retirement Village resident for a year now and her village manager, Helen Vlasich, says the other residents are familiar with the nonagenarian’s daredevil ways, saying ‘Lois will do it’ when adventures are suggested.
After growing up in Hastings, the retired machinist had a career making bed spreads and theatre curtains for Andrews and Clark Furnishings in Queen Street, Auckland.
With the support of her daughter Josie, the unlikely adrenaline junkie is busy planning her next adventures, including a race car lap and skydiving.
“If you’re keeping good health then definitely make a bucket list and stick to it. It has been one marvellous experience after another and it makes you feel alive.”
