FoodSwitch is a free smartphone app designed to help New Zealanders make healthier food choices.
The app gives New Zealand consumers the ability to reduce high levels of fat, salt and sugar in their families’ diets, as well as choose low gluten or gluten-free options.
Packaged foods can be surprisingly high in salt, fat and sugar. FoodSwitch can help you find out what’s in the food you’re eating, so you can switch to healthier options.
We are really pleased at the number of New Zealanders who have downloaded FoodSwitch so far, and hope we can help even more people to make healthier food choices in the futureDr Helen Eyles
The app is easy to use – simply Scan, Switch and Share.
Using your smartphone camera, scan the barcode of a packaged food to see its nutritional data and switch to the best choice. Then share your healthy choices with family and friends or save in a shopping list for next time.
Bupa partnered with The George Institute and the National Institute for Health Innovation (NIHI) at the University of Auckland to create FoodSwitch, following lots of research.
“We are really pleased at the number of New Zealanders who have downloaded FoodSwitch so far, and hope we can help even more people to make healthier food choices in the future,” says Dr Helen Eyles, from NIHI.
