Andrea, the Village Manager at Bupa Ballarat Retirement Village in Rangiora, always likes to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. She has a soft spot for Ireland, as her husband is Irish and all her four children were born in Cork city.
Kathy (the Village Manager from Bupa Parkstone Retirement Village in Christchurch) and Andrea decided to get together with their residents and celebrate St Patrick’s Day in style.
About 50 people came along to the community centre at Bupa Ballarat Retirement Village. Kathy and her residents travelled from Christchurch out to Rangiora, which took about 45 minutes each way.
It was an afternoon of entertainment and fun. Everyone settled in and started off with a shot of Baileys. Next up was an Irish quiz, followed by a lovely afternoon tea and Nola Mills played the harmonica. Of course the spread, served with a cup of tea or coffee, had a green theme with green cake, shortbread & cream, asparagus rolls and green grapes.
Margaret Foster - costume prize winner
There was a competition for ‘wear your best green’ outfit. The bus driver was the designated judge. The winner (pictured below) was Margaret Foster from Bupa Ballarat Retirement Village. She had gone all out with a green wig, skirt and necklaces. Her prize was a nice box of roses chocolates.
